This is why Inner Work can be uncomfortable.

This article came to me this morning as the Trainer of the course released an audio on our whatsapp group about resistance and the protection of the mind, in response to someone having some struggles finding their moments of guilt.
It made me think back on some of other work I’ve done, and I also wanted to share some more about what’s happening in my experience of the Program.
First, bear with me, I’m going to share a story and some things I have learned about resistance…. then I’ll go into the Inspired Money Foundation details…
A while ago I went through the exercise of doing a book called “The Artist’s Way,” by Julia Cameron (I wrote about it in QLC #35).
In that 12-week process (which I did more than once), I learned about the Censor – our Left Brain, the Analytical Mind, which “keeps up a constant stream of subversive remarks that are often disguised as the truth.”
It’s the Logic Brain. It’s also part of our leftover Survival Brain.
This “Censor” protects us. It has been part-in-charge of deciding whether it is safe for us to do certain things.
The process of the Morning Pages, was one way I was able to get familiar with how mind can interfere with what’s in the subconscious, and it helped me hear past that.
Why Inner Work Feels So Uncomfortable
The mind isn’t trying to sabotage us, necessarily.
It’s trying to keep us alive, safe, familiar.
Your Mind is Built to Protect You
Part of the brain has one primary responsibility.
Not happiness. Not fulfillment. Not becoming our highest self (haha).
Its first job is survival. Everything we experience throughout our life has become data. The subconscious catalogued all of it and quietly created one mission:
Never let that happen again.
So when you begin inner work…
when you begin changing…
the subconscious doesn’t necessarily see growth. It sees risk.
Resistance Is Often Protection
This changes how we interpret resistance.
We can begin asking,
“What is this part of me trying to protect me from?”
And underneath protection… there is a younger version of ourselves trying to make sure we never experienced the same pain twice.
Gratitude Before You Ask It to Change
One of the most powerful shifts I’ve experienced is this:
Instead of becoming frustrated with my resistance… I have became grateful for it.
Because every uncomfortable emotion is almost always pointing toward something my mind believed was necessary for my survival.
It is evidence I am approaching the edge of an old identity.
And identity don’t disappear quietly.
- it negotiates,
- it resists,
- it argues.
Because we built that identity of ourselves as a way to protect ourselves.
📌 In Inspired Money Foundation,
I realize that in about week 2 of our process in Inspired Money Foundation, we are all becoming challenged by our own inner protective measures… and we’re being asked to stretch a little… to go out of our comfort zones:
- looking at experiences we’ve collected and judged ourselves about, and let me tell you this isn’t an easy thing to do.
- seeing the fractal patterns that are getting in the way of our change, in our life in general and how they repeats at the level finances as well; and examining ourselves with awareness and curiosity and passion to change ourselves
- looking at the mirror reflections of ourselves in the group, and seeing how every person is reflecting some part of ourselves in some way, and being humble enough to hold awareness for ourselves.
- the diligence of holding our momentum and commitments to ourselves and to our partners in the process of the program, keeping ourselves accountable to the work we signed up to do.
… all these in the first two week become really fore-front in the process.
