The Brain Region Behind Energy Work, Sensory Awareness, and Translating Higher Frequencies

The Pineal Gland + Pituitary Gland + Thalamus & Hypothalamus

“When your Pineal Gland (or the third eye) is awakened because it is picking up higher frequencies, these higher frequencies alter the chemistry of melatonin; the higher the frequency — the greater the alteration. It’s this translation of information into chemistry that primes you for those transcendental, mystical moments. Now you’re opening the door to higher dimensions of space and time.” — Dispenza

As far as mystical energetic practices go, this diencephalon of the brain that I’m about to describe here — which includes the Pineal Glad as well as the Thalamus, the Hypothalamus and the Pituitary Gland, is one of the most important to understand.

This area of the brain plays a role in a) sensory integration, b) hormone regulation, and c) maintaining the body’s internal homeostasis.

This is a brief snapshot of what happens in this region.

  1. The Thalamus routes (receives, filters, and relays) sensory signals information from the five primary senses to the neocortex.
  2. It communicates with the Hypothalamus to coordinate responses.

The thalamus and hypothalamus are right next to each other and communicate through multiple neural pathways — especially through ANS, Stress, and Circadian Rhythm.

  1. Hypothalamus then directly controls the Pituitary Gland; which is primarily a hormone/peptide releasing gland.
  2. Meanwhile, the Hypothalamus also acts upon the Pineal Gland, through a couple mechanisms, one of which is the light/dark cues of the eyes.

Sensory Input → Thalamus → Hypothalamus → Pituitary → Endocrine System
 and
Light → Eyes → Hypothalamus → Pineal → Melatonin

These are two a very real set of pathways in neuroendocrinology.

How do these structures relate to energy work?

This entire region of the brain is not only important for our conscious perception and awareness, but it is critical for autonomic homeostasis and balance within the body.

Breathing influences the autonomic nervous system and brain rhythms, which influence thalamocortical activity and sensory gating.

The Breathe is probably one of the most powerful tools in changing brainwaves and creating a different frequency in the brain. The Thalamus and the Pituitary Glands are more under autonomic control, however, in the practice of meditation you can influence the way these centers to work through intention once you are at the alpha or theta brainwaves (which is where you access the autonomic nervous system)…more on how Intention influences outcomes in the future.

Lastly, the pineal gland is a major frequency receiver, and once activated it will cascade through the body with many incredible effects, almost like a “body upgrade” infusing the body with new information.

So let go into each of these a bit deeper…

The Thalamus

Neuroscience describes the role of the Thalamus as a “sensory relay station”; it filters, processes, and forwards sensory information to the cerebral cortex. It is a gatekeeper of sensory input.

It is essentially a gatekeeper for what is “allowed” to pass through to the higher brain areas for conscious perception and awareness.

soo.. in other words …

The thalamus acts as a sensory relay and filtering center, determining which sensory signals are transmitted to the cerebral cortex.

The Thalamic Gate also opens and closes when influenced by different factors, specifically light and breathing.

  • Light indirectly influences thalamic activity via circadian and arousal systems.
  • Slow breathing and meditation can change thalamocortical rhythms, which affect sensory gating and consciousness states.

It is also the area that allows for the brain state environment to allow for the passage of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) as it filters through our brain as part of the delta sleep state network, however it can be influenced during meditative states as well. More on this another time.

The Hypothalamus

This is the area of the brain that is under “autonomic control” as well, i.e. regulates things like body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, thirst, balance, movement… etc. This region of the brain also regulates the flight-or-flight response; as well as the rest-and-digest functions. It is often called the “command center” for the brain’s vital functions.

And it has direct control over the Pituitary Gland.

The Pituitary Gland

This is the “output” of neuropeptides or hormones that regulate all the other endocrine glands throughout the body. This is a critical gland in maintaining homeostasis throughout the body. This is all I’m going to say about this. But it’s important to know that while the Thalamus is an “input center”; the Pituitary Gland is an “output center”.

On a spiritual level, the Pituitary Gland is considered the “7th seal” as well as the “master gland of harmony”. This is because energetically, through the light energetic body, the energy centers of the body are all connected to the 7th center at the top of the head. The Pituitary Gland heavily regulates thought frequencies from the higher realms of dimension.

The Pineal Gland

The Pineal Gland is also influenced by the Hypothalamus.

The main pathway of influence from the Hypothalamus to the Pineal Gland is by way of the sleep-wake cycle. Light or “lack of” light affects a part of the hypothalamus and these signals either induce or inhibit melatonin production by the Pineal Gland. The release or inhibition of melatonin is what prompts us to be ‘wakeful’ or ‘sleepy’.

There are other mechanism by which the Hypothalamus affects the Pineal Gland,

  • norepinephrine signaling
  • cortisol levels
  • reproductive hormones
  • seasonal biological rhythms

On a spiritual level, the Pineal Gland (or the Third Eye) is the dial-in — it descrambles signals and then anchors us into any one version of reality.

Activation of the Pineal Gland crystals will act as a radioreceiver and will pick up frequencies that are not consistent with visible light — frequencies above the speed of light… higher in information and order; therefore, making you able to use your “radioreceiver” to tune into frequencies that exist beyond your senses.

So I hope this article gives you a better vantage point of the interconnected brain structures of the thalamus, hypothalamus, pituitary, and pineal gland, and how together they form a control system linking sensory perception, autonomic regulation, hormones, and circadian rhythms.

From an energy work perspective, this region of the brain can be seen as a system that translates information, frequency, and perception into chemistry and physiology. Understanding this system provides a bridge between neuroscience, consciousness, and practices that aim to shift awareness and internal states.
